A Day of Remeberence

Superintendent Fred V. Morrone

One of those heroes from the New York and New Jersey Port Authority Police Department was Superintendent of Police Fred Morrone, the most senior officer to perish in the towers.  Superintendent Morrone was the incoming President of IAASP at the time of his death. In his memory we have established an educational fund to assist in the fight against terrorism through educational and exchange programs and the Fred V. Memorial Award Dinner in honor of our friend, the other 36 members of his department and all the first responders who lost thier lives. Please see the Fred V. Morrone Memorial page on this site.

 9/11 Our Officers

We Shall Never Forget

On September 11, 2001, New York & New Jersey Port Authority Police were the first law enforcement personnel to respond to the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center.  Officers quickly rushed into the burning buildings and helped rescue thousands of employees who arrived at work moments earlier.  Thirty-seven of these heroic men and women were killed that day when the towers collapsed.

No police department in this nation's history lost as many officers in a single incident as did the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department on September 11, 2001.  From its inception on June 1, 1928 to September 10, 2001, the PAPD lost a total of 37 officers in the line of duty 37 officers over a period of 78 years.  On September 11, 2001, the Port Authority Police Department lost 3% of its total force!  Every uniformed rank of the Department lost someone on that fateful day.

This page is dedicated to the memory of all the 37 brave and fearless members of the Port Authority Police Department, whose selfless actions and incredible courage in the face of extreme personal risk, made sure that others escaped the World Trade Center, while sacrificing their own lives, so others could live.

The men and women of the International Association of Airport and Seaport Police honor their memory will do so now and forever.  ...
